Our History

Officially established in 1980, Thresholds Homes and Supports Inc. has been serving the community for more than 30 years. Our roots go back even further. In the early 1970’s, mental health professionals and other concerned citizens recognized the lack of decent, affordable, supportive housing for individuals with psychiatric disabilities and did something about it!

Thresholds Homes and Supports has grown from a single, eight-bedroom group home to providing more than 300 subsidized accommodations and serving more than 1,100 individuals.

Our subsidized accommodations include properties in Waterloo Region, Guelph/Wellington and Dufferin Counties. Thresholds Homes and Supports owns 10 properties and provides access to additional subsidized, one-bedroom apartments.

Early on, Thresholds recognized that supporting individuals with mental health issues in their effort to be part of the community is as important as providing housing. Individuals receive a personal, flexible range of support services from 24/7 assistance to monthly contact.

Support is offered through programs including:

  • Housing
  • Housing Support Services
  • Outreach and Short Term Support
  • Crisis Respite Residential Program
  • Assertive Community Treatment
  • Extraordinary Needs Program (ENP)
  • Community Homes for Opportunity (CHO)
